They provide many unique benefits, including deep conditioning; targeted conditioning to areas of particularly damaged hair; protection from thermal damage; increasing colour retention; imparting gloss and shine. These modified silicones seem to be of particular benefit for those with damaged hair.
Anageline® inhibits the activity of 5-reductase II, limiting the transformation of testosterone into 5-DHT, a hormone responsible for androgenetic alopecia. It contains a potent protein (Biotinoyl Tri Peptide-1) which helps to strengthen the hair follicles and increase hair density. Anageline® also aids the supply of the required oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles, to promote healthy hair growth.
Arnica Chamissonis Flower, known just as the Arnica Flower, increases blood circulation functionality which helps the required nutrients reach the hair follicles. It also contains anti-inflammatory and scalp healing properties. Arnica Extract is also used to address other conditions of the hair and scalp, such as dandruff, dry hair, and split ends. There have also been claims that it can combat premature greying and hair loss. Arnica not only provides the essential nutrients to hair, but also promotes healthy hair growth.
Green tea, also known as Camellia Sinensis, strengthens and stimulates the hair follicles and roots. It also increases density and promotes faster hair growth, whilst improving the appearance of the hair. Green tea is also a natural antioxidant (compounds known as polyphenols). According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, a 2007 study by Korean scientists at the Seoul National University College of Medicine found that epigallocatechin-3-gallat (EGCG) present in green tea promoted growth of hair follicles and stimulated the human dermal papilla cells to boost hair production. The Korean study notes that green tea may have potential to inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, the scalp pathway that converts testosterone to DHT and leads to hair loss. Chamomilla Recutita Flower
The primary active ingredient of this essential oil is extracted from German Chamomile. It soothes, purifies and protects the scalp. It is especially effective on sensitive scalps. It also increases blood circulation functionality and contains antispasmodic, anxiolytic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Equisetum Arvense, commonly known as the Field Horsetail or Common Horsetail, is rich in minerals such as silicon, potassium and calcium. It also promotes circulation to the scalp, which nourishes, strengthens and restores the hair follicles. Horsetail also promotes and restores vitality of the hair.
Foeniculum Vulgare Fruit, commonly known as Fennel, helps to soothe and heal irritations on the scalp. It also gives life to dull, limp hair. Fennel oil especially, has exceptional antioxidant properties. The oil extracts from this plant have an Estrogenic effect which blocks the activities of Alpha-5-reductase enzymes (also known as DHT) in the hair follicles, consequently halting the production of Hydroxy Testosterone, which is the main cause of hair loss in men.
Hydrolysed Silk contains proteins which add luster and body to the hair. It conditions and repairs the hair, making it feel softer and more manageable. The proteins in Hydrolysed Silk also binds moisture to the hair and provides a protective barrier, making the hair more resilient.
Lamium Album, most commonly known as Nettle or White Nettle, is used to combat one of the causes of hair loss by inhibiting testosterone from being turned into DHT, a hormone which renders hair follicles useless, thereby preventing them from producing hair. Nettle extract, particularly from the leaf, therefore reduces hair loss and encourages hair to regrow. It is also use to control dandruff and is said to make hair glossier. Nettle is also believed to improve the condition of hair, providing hair follicles with vitamins and minerals to produce stronger and healthier hair.
Panax Ginseng Root helps to stimulate the hair follicles and promote healthy hair growth. In Osaka, Japan, a study suggested that the carbohydrate in Panax Ginseng Root was shown to help fight androgenic alopecia. The natural herbal, Panax Ginseng Root can be a remedy for for the prevention and regrowth of hair.
According to the University of Maryland Medical Centre also, Panax Ginseng Root is believed to have antioxidant properties, which can contribute to the health of your cardiovascular system and encourage healthy blood flow. Research also suggests that this will also improve the health of your hair follicles and cells, helping to prevent hair loss. Found in: R12 Tri Peptide Active Hair Serum for Women
Panthenol (Dexpanthenol and Quaternized Panthenol)
Panthenol has moisturising properties and comes in two forms with D-panthenol (dexpanthenol) being biologically active. Panthenol is important in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids, proteins, gluconeogenesis, sterols, steroid hormones, and porphyrins. The topical use of dexpanthenol, the stable alcoholic analogue of pantothenic acid, is based on good skin penetration, acting like a moisturiser, improving hydration of the outer layer of skin, reducing water loss through the skin, and maintaining skin softness and elasticity. Quaternized Panthenol delivers smoother and silkier hair, with nourishing and conditioning properties and an anti-static effect.
Polyquaterniums are commonly found in conditioners, shampoos, mousses, hair sprays and hair dye solutions. They are positively charged and therefore neutralise the negative charges of most shampoos and condition hair proteins that help hair lie flat. Their positive charges also ionically bond them to hair and skin. They also have antimicrobial properties. Polyquaternium has many benefits for the hair including: moisturising the hair; providing a glossy and smooth texture resulting in easy combing and styling; protecting and strengthening damaged hair and having an anti-static effect.
Commonly known as Pomegranate, extract of the Punica Granatum fruit can help rejuvenate dry hair and strengthen the follicles. It also protects against harmful environmental elements, as well as prolonging, maintaining and protecting hair colour vibrancy, including that of dyed hair.
Rosemary (also known as Rosmarinus officinalis), has many properties such as regulating blood pressure, stimulating blood circulation and boosting the health of the heart, including circulation to the scalp and helping the flow of nutrients to reach the hair follicles. It also regulates the production of excess sebum and is also extremely high in Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin B6. Rosemary also contains anti-bacterial, anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation properties and is also astringent with wound healing properties.
Serenoa Serrulata, commonly known as Saw Palmetto or Sabal, has been shown to inhibit both forms of 5-alpha-reductase also known as DHT, a hormone which can cause hair loss. Other properties include interfering with dihydrotestosterone binding to the androgen receptor, relaxing muscle tissue and acting as a phytoestrogen. The fruits of the saw palmetto are highly enriched with fatty acids and phytosterols. Saw palmetto extract has been suggested as a treatment for male pattern baldness.
Seveov™, known as Rehmannia Chinensis Root or Maca Root, stimulates and increases hair growth whilst protecting the interior of the hair. According to an ex vivo study, Seveov™ increased hair growth by 93% during the Anagen phase. Furthermore, studies found that protects new hair as well as the roots, and strengthens adhesion hair on the scalp.
Swertia Japnica, known just as Swertia, helps promote the blood flow as well as increasing the circulation of the scalp. This allows the flow of nutrients to the scalp and encourages healthy hair growth. It also stimulates weak hair follicles to enhance hair growth. Swertia extract also contains natural antioxidants.
Thyme, known also as Thymus Vulgaris, provides powerful nutrients to hair follicles that are essential for healthy hair growth. Thyme also improves blood circulation to the scalp which encourages natural healthy hair growth. It also contains anti-bacterial, anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation properties.
Commonly known as Wheat Bran, Triticum Vulgare Bran Extract nourishes and conditions the hair. It also makes it easier to comb through the hair, which means you are less likely to pull the hair when brushing and cause further damage.
Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, is an essential vitamin for hair growth and health, and a natural antioxidant. Your body needs vitamin B-5 to metabolise the carbs, protein and fat you eat, and in turn, convert this food into usable energy and nourishment for all of your cells. Without this vitamin, your hair follicles will not get the nutrients they need to function properly. Over time, this can lead to a malnourishment of your follicles and result in reduced hair growth and even loss. Meeting the recommended daily allowance, or RDA, of Vitamin B5 can help prevent this from occurring.
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin, a natural antioxidant and is part of the vitamin B complex group. Pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) is the active form and is also a co-factor in many reactions of amino acid metabolism, including transamination, deamination, and decarboxylation. B vitamins are very important for the overall health and growth of hair. Vitamin B6 works to help create melanin that is responsible for setting hair colour and also helps to prevent hair loss.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamins with antioxidant properties, free radical intermediates and preventing the oxidation reaction from continuing, also assisting in protecting the skin from UV rays. Vitamin E also helps our hair and skin to rejuvenate itself more effectively. It also increases the wound healing properties of the skin and hair tissues. Another known property is that it increases the supply of hydration to the skin and hair tissues.
Vitamin F is a natural antioxidant, whilst Vitamin F Forte contains polyunsaturated essential free fatty acids, originating from safflower oil, with a particularly high content of linoleic acid in its natural form. Vitamin F Forte revitalises hair, improving the hair condition. It greatly strengthens hair and prevents hair breakage, even after the hair has been stressed severely and repeatedly by hot flat ironing or other hair heating or styling appliances.
